What is Back Pain?

Back pain is very common, with 8 in 10 people suffering from back pain at some point in their lives. Back pain can be caused by many things including poor posture, standing or bending for long periods, using a chair which does not provide proper back support, lifting heavy loads or an injury. There are various therapies designed to relieve the cause or strain of back pain:

Acupuncture
By inserting fine needles into the channels of energy, an acupuncturist can stimulate the bodies own healing response and help restore its natural balance.

Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a practical method developed by FM Alexander for changing the way we use ourselves in the activities of everyday life.

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the systematic use of essential oils in holistic treatments to improve physical and emotional well-being.

Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy Massage is the use of essential oils for curative and rejuvenating effects during a massage.

Chiropractic
Chiropractic focuses on the manipulation of the spine and other joints to treat a variety of problems involving the muscles, bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments.

Cryotherapy
Also known as ice therapy, this modality uses the application of cold hydrotherapy in the form of ice packs and to alleviate blood flow, and inflammation with the contraction of blood vessels.

Heat Therapy
The use of Infra-red and ultrasound to alleviate pack pain as well as heat packs.

Hydrotherapy
The use of water to relieve symptoms.

Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is an enhanced state of relaxation and concentration in which deeper parts of the mind become more accessible. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis, preferably with psychotherapeutic knowledge.

Infra-red
Treatment uses healing infra-red light to treat painful muscles and other parts of the body.

Magnetic Therapy
It has been suggested that certain types of magnetic field can help speed up healing and reduce pain in muscular complaints.

Physiotherapy
Non-surgical treatment which uses a variety of techniques to speed up the healing process of damaged joints, muscles and other soft tissues, reducing pain and stress.

Ultrasound
The use of high frequency sound waves to alleviate pain and discomfort to injured parts of the body.

Yoga
Exercises to stretch and flex the body, develop breath awareness, relaxation and sometimes includes meditation.
