Body Balancing with Shiatsu
23 August 2007
Are you always on the go and unable to take time out? If this sounds familiar, you may find that your overly active life taking its toll on your health, causing stress related illnesses and body pains. If your body balance has become distressed or is working overtime then try Shiatsu. This hands-on body treatment uses pressure to stimulate and balance the energy (qi) flow around the body restoring your overall health and letting your energy shine through.
This powerful form of healing and health maintenance fuses Eastern practices with western techniques drawn from osteopathy and physiotherapy. Based on the same principals as Acupuncture, Shiatsu aims to restore harmony in the body's qi flow. Unlike acupuncture where needles are used Shiatsu uses pressure from fingers, thumbs, palms and elbows to harmonize deficient, stagnant or excess qi which gives rise to illness and disease. Numerous conditions respond well to Shiatsu, from neck, shoulder and back problems, muscular tension and joint pain to depression, anxiety, IBS, PMT and menstrual pain. In addition Shiatsu is particularly safe and well responded to in pregnancy.
BodyMatters’ Shiatsu practitioner Fiona Hurlock (pictured above) begins a Shiatsu treatment by taking a medical history from you and finding out what you need, before assessing your qi flow by feeling your abdomen (hara) and pulse. She says:
“All of this information helps me to understand your body from an energetic point of view and allows me to tailor the treatment to suit your individual needs. Whilst people often experience immediate improvements in posture, flexibility, energy levels and sleep, long term chronic conditions may take a number of sessions to respond. You don't have to be sick to benefit from Shiatsu.”
For an Oriental holistic approach to healing the body, mind and spirit, Shiatsu can really help bring a sense of balance to your life, replenish your body's resources and restore health and wellbeing.
Shiatsu costs £50 for 1 hour, contact BodyMatters on 020 7419 7900.
